The Australian dollar is the currency. Major cards and currency exchange available. 10% GST on purchases, claimable at airport.
In Australia, the currency used is Australian Dollars (AUD).
You can use Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, American Express, Bankcard, JCB and their affiliates as well. Card payment is widely adopted. Some hotels do not accept payment in cash.

There is a 10% goods and services tax (GST) on purchases, but if you're from overseas you may be able to claim it back at the airport when you leave (so keep your receipts). This also applies to the wine equalisation tax.
