Magic Millions Barrier Draw Returned to Surfers Paradise Beach on January 7, 2025.

Beach Exhibition Horse Runs: 6.30am, 7.15am and 8.15am

Surfers Paradise Beach once again transformed into a unique racing hub as the highly anticipated Magic Millions Barrier Draw took to the beach.

This iconic event, an integral part of the Magic Millions Carnival, blends the excitement of thoroughbred racing with the stunning backdrop of one of Australia’s most famous beaches.  

The barrier draw determines the starting positions for horses competing in the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, setting the stage for the marquee races at the Gold Coast Turf Club later in the week.  

The event captures the glamour of racing with a quintessentially Queensland twist. The draw unfolds on the golden sands of Surfers Paradise, where thoroughbred horses, jockeys, trainers and owners gather alongside beachgoers to witness this unique spectacle. A lively atmosphere with interviews, live entertainment and opportunities for fans to interact with some of the sport's top names.  

As always, this early morning event is free for the public to attend making it a must-see for locals and visitors. With its combination of prestige, excitement and beach setting this event exemplifies why the Magic Millions Carnival is a highlight of the Australian summer racing calendar.

Starting from 6am, this unique event showcases the perfect blend of thoroughbred racing excitement and the stunning coastal backdrop of Queensland’s most iconic beach.

All eyes will turn towards the ocean sands as champion jockeys, paired with magnificent thoroughbreds, gallop down the pristine Surfers Paradise beach in a breathtaking spectacle. This seaside gallop is a highlight of the morning, celebrating the glamour and athleticism of the sport in an unparalleled setting.

The excitement continues as the connections of each runner in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic field arrive in style to participate in the barrier draw. Each connection will randomly select the starting gate for their horse ahead of Raceday, set for Saturday, January 11.

Shortly after, at approximately 8:30am, the barrier draw for the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas will take place, finalizing the key details for the two headline races of the Carnival.

This free, public event offers a rare opportunity for fans to immerse themselves in the world of elite racing while enjoying live entertainment, vibrant atmosphere and stunning views.
