Major erosion along Surfers Paradise Beach

As of 9 am on Friday, March 7, 2025, Tropical Cyclone Alfred was approximately 195 kilometers east of Brisbane, moving slowly towards the coast.  

Impact on Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast:
• Wind and Rain: Gusts of about 100 km/h were recorded at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast overnight, with expectations of heavy rainfall leading to potential flash flooding.  
• Structural Damage: Part of a high-rise building in Surfers Paradise has collapsed due to the worsening weather conditions.  
• Power Outages: Approximately 24,000 homes on the Gold Coast experienced power outages due to debris damaging the Tugun substation.  
• Emergency Warnings: Residents have been advised to stay indoors, secure outdoor items, and avoid driving unless necessary due to dangerous conditions.  

Residents should continue to monitor updates from local authorities and adhere to any evacuation orders or safety advisories issued.
