Surfers Paradise Pyjama Parties
The classic Surfers Paradise Pyjama Parties at the Beachcomer Hotel. Licencing laws were strict so raids were regularly conducted… and anticipated. The police would confiscate the beer but people took to throwing the bottles in the pool. Which lead to the police going in after the evidence. While the cops disrobed the band played stripper music.
Pyjama parties have made news overseas, and now they make news in Australia, as police raid a hotel that's Surfers Paradise.
The hotel is packed with merrymakers, some who've come by bus from Coolangatta to join in the fun. About 200 couples attend the party.
Invitation is by entree card only, but it seems there are plenty of cards, and the dancers, young and old alike, are having a whale of a time.
A previous party was raided by Brisbane licensing squad detectives, and outside the hotel, some 500 people wait for another raid tonight, but the guests just couldn't care less.
In fact, it's all quiet, except for the band and the rock and rollers, until 10.25pm. Then, 10 police move into the hotel. They stay for an hour taking names. It's as much fun as the pajama party itself, and the police face a barrage of comments.
A few bottles are confiscated. Blow me down, they won't even let a fellow finish. Not that he isn't a tryer all the way.
The raid ends after midnight, and then there's another one, but the pajama party just goes on and on.
