Gold Coast Surfers Paradise Australia – vintage 1962 black and white report
Transcript
At the risk of making you feel discontented about getting up every morning and going to work, come with Movietone to Surfers Paradise. And cinemascopically speaking, enjoy a quick tour of the Gold Coast, that strip in the sun so many of us have a yen for.
Probably one of the most phenomenally developed holiday resorts in Australia, Surfers seems to have something for everyone. Even shopping can be fun, where you can buy just about everything from a barbecue to a surfboard. You won't go short on souvenirs, and as for cheery postcards, they're marvellous, for making the folks back home feel terrible.
Accommodation comes in many ways, from plush hotels to more casual motels. Private swimming pools are about as plentiful as people.Obviously he's a bachelor, we don't know any husband game enough to throw his wife in a pool.
Of course, swimming and other aquatic sports are the most favored pastime, and this applies to all ages. When you're tired of lounging about the pool, take a spell on the beach. It's the ideal place, if you like sand castles or just getting a good tan to show off down south.
And to help that tan along, John Patterson will spray you with his special formula of muttonbird oil. Works fine for everyone, except the muttonbird.
At nearby Tweed Heads, Jack Evans' Porpoise Pool is a must on your visiting list. Just watch these fellas come to dinner.
Next time you meet a porpoise, kiss him. He likes it.
Without a doubt, gentle creatures with prodigious appetites. The human population at Currumbin is outnumbered thousands to one by gaily-coloured lorikeets, which flock there twice a day for a handout. Completely without fear, they'll clamber all over you provided you keep their supper coming. You can practically set your watch by them as they arrive each day at 10 in the morning and 4.30 in the afternoon. Naturally, they're protected by law.
Another popular spectator sport is speed boat racing, and this you can watch from the banks of the Nerang River. Many of the boats are jet powered and they can really scoot.
The river is of course ideal for water skiing, and professional teams frequently give displays.
How's this for a balancing act?Always a crowd thriller, a ride through a wall of flame. And over the jump, watch as he loses a ski, but continues on one.
Yes, that's the paradise they call surfers. Oh well, see you back at work.
