Gold Coast Historical Museum Inc
Explore exhibits showcasing the early history of the area.
Our historical collection is full of fascinating items, such as the Paula Stafford Bikini Collection from the 1950s, artefacts from the Scottish Prince shipwrecked off Stradbroke Island in 1887, a large collection of Aboriginal artefacts, over 2,500 objects and 1,500 photographs showcasing the Gold Coast area.
We also have a treasure trove of archival records, including newspapers, maps, development plans, and books about the local area. The Gold Coast Museum was established in 1972 on land that was once a gathering place for Aboriginal people, evidenced by the presence of middens. The grounds, which are listed as a heritage site, cover one and a quarter acres and include a remnant littoral rainforest and native vegetation.
Our team of friendly volunteers will be happy to greet you and your family and offer you morning tea. You can also bring your own lunch and enjoy a picnic on our beautiful lawns surrounded by native gardens. We are open every Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Come explore and discover all that our collection has to offer!
